Technology and science has come a long way in creating eco friendly alternatives to authentic cowhide leather. We can design leather much better than an animal can. We’re basically taking aerospace engineering of highly complex materials and using it to make wearable items that are a much better design for people than the original design from an animal would be and it’s all green and sustainable.
Eco-leather is made with natural fibers such as flax or cotton mixed with palm, corn, soybean and other plant oils that are laminated together in layers to create something that looks and feels as if it came from an animal.
We love it because it gives us a whole element of design that we didn’t have before when we were trying to work with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) as an artificial leather substitute. Also it’s breathable. It’s not like a plastic that would make your foot sweaty if you wore it.
And unlike real leather, which requires tanning — a process that releases potentially toxic materials into the environment — the materials in eco-leather are sustainable and produce a low carbon footprint.
Interest in the material is growing. Nike, Puma and Adidas have requested samples of it so that they can experiment with this new, green product.
Producing real leather is not very eco-friendly. So to be able to have a material that looks, feels and has the same properties of leather — but is more controllable and is more environmentally friendly is a great achievement.
If we can use plants to make a bio-based material that replaces something like leather that has all sorts of environmental and social concerns surrounding it, then that would be a very positive contribution to the sustainability of our planet.
We are very happy to be using Eco leather in our makeup bags. Even though this may seem a small feat, if every company took baby steps, oh what a change the world will see.

Australians spend more on cosmetic surgery than Americans according to a recent 7 news article. If americans spent approximately $11 billion on cosmetic procedures in 2012 in an attempt to defy aging, then we are spending alot more. Looking young doesn’t have to be such an expensive endeavor. We exercise our bodies to stay fit, firm and flexible beyond our years, why not exercise our face muscles? Some proponents even insist that exercising your face in the right way can prevent wrinkles just as well as Botox and injectable fillers can. Our eyes are our feature of choice, Luxe Lashes has selected six exercises to lift eyes, banish eye wrinkles and deflate those unsightly eyebags.
Get that Blood Flowing
Massaging specific acupressure points around the eyes opens up the body’s natural energy flow and stimulates blood circulation to the eye area, thereby nourishing eye tissues, cells and skin, increasing collagen levels and improving elasticity.
Eye Exercise #1:Place your thumbs in the corner of your upper eye sockets, cradled just underneath your brows and the ridge of your nose. Keeping your eyes closed, massage with small, but firm, inward circles to boost blood flow around the eyes, nose and center of the face. Twice a day for a minute per session will help minimise eye wrinkles, including crow’s feet, as well as under eye bags.
Eye Exercise #2: Place your forefingers at the outer corners of your eyes, directly in line with your temples. Massage with tiny, but firm, outward circles. One minute, morning and evening, will tackle crow’s feet and under eye wrinkles, as well as firm the skin on the upper cheeks.
Eye Exercise #3: Place your forefingers under your eyes, directly beneath your pupils. Keeping your eyes open, massage with small, firm outward circles in order to diminish eyebags and under eye wrinkles.
Strengthen those Eye Muscles
While random, funny faces can lead to more wrinkles, specific face exercises can actually enhance the production of collagen and elastin, thereby dissolving wrinkles and firming the skin.
Eye Exercise #4 Þ Strengthen your eye muscles with a natural lifting exercise by raising your eyebrows as high as possible for a five second hold. Repeat five to ten times per day.
Eye Exercise #5 Þ Cynthia Rowland, creator of Facial Magic, a program of facial exercises designed to lift and firm face muscles naturally, suggests the following exercise to lift the eyes and smooth the forehead. Rowland recommends wearing gloves in order to create resistance and traction so the muscles have to work a bit harder.
Place your three middle fingers directly underneath your eyebrows, cupping your face gently with the palms of your hands. Push your eyebrows up with your fingertips as high as you can, pushing slightly outward toward the temples. Hold for five seconds. On the next few repetitions, hold for ten second intervals for a total of 35 seconds.
Eye Exercise #6 Þ This is more of an all over facial exercise developed by yoga expert and author of The Yoga Face, Annelise Hagen. Squeeze every muscle in your body tight on an inhale. Exhale, relaxing the muscles, sticking out your tongue and opening your eyes wide. Really stretch out that tongue! Hold for 60 seconds, rest and repeat three times.

Eyelash lifts and eyelash extensions may make your eyes pop, but if the skin around your eyes is puffy and dark, the pop is less of a bang and more of a fizzle. Not to worry, the delicate skin under your eyes just needs a bit of TLC. Chances are your fridge and cupboards are already stocked with natural remedies that are guaranteed to lighten dark circles and reduce under-eye puffiness.
Under-eye Culprits
There are the obvious culprits—lack of sleep, a sob-fest, heredity—but under-eye puffiness and dark circles can also be caused by seasonal allergies and sinus infections. Clear your nasal cavities with a neti pot daily to minimize the stress of hay fever on your under-eye area.
A high-salt diet may also be to blame. And, of course, ageing always factors into the beauty mix; the tissues and muscles around our eyes weaken, and fat migrates into the lower eyelids. This process, coupled with fluid retention, can cause your under-eye area to appear bloated.
If your dark circles are blue or purple in hue, then what you’re really seeing are the veins and vessels showing through your thin skin. Try the following at-home remedies to help minimize these beauty banes.
The Cucumber Trick:
An oldie but goodie, the cucumber eye mask is a quick pick-me-up for tired eyes. Composed of over 90% water, cucumbers hydrate the dry skin under the eyes. When applied cold, they reduce blood flow, thereby soothing inflammation and tightening skin.
Apply two thick slices of cold cucumber to each eye. Lie down, relax and let the cucumber work its magic for 10 to 15 minutes.
The Tea Bag Tonic:
Tea bags aren’t just for drinking. Refrigerate used tea bags and you have an effective cure for under-eye circles and bags. The tannins and antioxidants in caffeinated black and green teas calm swelling and lighten discolouration. According to Australian dermatologist's, green tea bags are the most potent because they contain the anti-inflammatory EGCG, a catechin that reduces fluid buildup under the eyes.
Lie down with two cold, used tea bags over your eyes for 10 to 15 minutes.
The Potato Panacea:
Raw potatoes contain an enzyme called catecholase, which has been shown to lighten skin, thereby minimizing dark circles.
You can puree a raw potato into a paste or you can cut two slices for each eye. It’s recommended that you apply this cure for 30 minutes a day.
Vitamin Therapy
Vitamins K, A and C are the three most important nutrients for under-eye health. Vitamin K promotes healthy blood clotting, vitamin A is essential for blood vessel health, and vitamin C contains bleaching properties. Eat plenty of leafy greens, such as kale, spinach and broccoli, and apply a topical treatment, such as lemon juice, to combat dark circles.
Massage a blend of turmeric (an anti-inflammatory spice) and pineapple, lemon, or tomato juice to help improve circulation and reduce puffiness. Dip a cotton ball in rose water to hydrate and heal tired, dry skin.
Give the delicate skin under your eyes a little extra attention each day and your baby blues will brighten back up in no time!
Last but not least, don't forget to drink plenty of water.
